  • GE Nautilus dishwasher - drainage problems

I have an older model GE Nautilus dishwasher (GSD3324F01WW) that isn't draining properly - we removed the white drain hose from the black drain pipe and then the water will drain into a bucket set at a lower height. There was nothing in the drain on the inside of the dishwasher.

It sounds like perhaps your pump has malfunctioned, or there is perhaps a blockage in the drain pipe. When you start the dishwasher, can you hear the pump start up? It should fire for a few seconds as soon as the dishwasher is turned on, to remove residual water. If you can't hear that motor, I'd start on the assumption that the pump has died. If you can hear it, then I'd start looking for blockage in the drain pipe. Whatever you do, before you consider the job done, be sure to return the white drain hose to a looped position! If the loop does not exist you risk vapor from your drain lines (ie: sewer) being able to vent back into your dishwasher.

The pump seems to be working fine, it does turn on and will pump the water out if I lower the hose when draining. We took out what some sites call the piston and nut assembly and it looked like it was very worn and then part of it fell off. Not sure if this part malfunctioning would cause the water not to pump out properly?

I can find no listings for such a model number. Is this a US appliance?

The water will siphon out (no pumping necessary) if you lower the drain hose enough.

the piston and nut assembly looked like it was very worn and then part of it fell off. Not sure if this part malfunctioning would cause the water not to pump out properly?
If your model uses it, yes it would!

It was bought in Canada at the Future Shop about 7 years ago - I can't find any info on this model number either.

No you won't find much information online for Canadian appliances unfortunately.

I was able to purchase the "piston and nut assembly" at a local parts place that carries GE. The dishwasher seems to be working now - apparently when this part wears out it allows the dirty water back into the machine, which seems to be what was happening. Thanks for your help.
