  • Whirlpool oven showing display "door" and doesn't start

    Hi,

Our Whirlpool oven (~12 years old, we believe) is displaying "door" in the electronic display and when we click bake, it just keeps beeping with the display showing "door". The cooking range on top of the oven works fine. Called the Whirlpool customer service, and they suggested we switch off the circuit breaker for 2 minutes and switch it back on and see if it works. Unfortunately, that didn't resolve the issue. Please help!

    Whirlpool oven range -->
    Model# RE375PXDW
    Serial# FE1103766

there must be a microswitch in the door that shows when the door latch is activated. the door latch is used for the self cleaning function of the oven. the lever of the latch is usually a toggle over center latch and an electromagnet seals the door during cleaning. go to www dot repairclinic dot com and find your range. they have generically exploded diagrams of appliances. Dan O will probably explain this further. He's our appliance guru.

The only things I can think of that might cause that while a bake function is selected is the control 'thinks' the door is latched when it shouldn't be or maybe a problem in the control itself. The control thinking the door is latched when it isn't might be caused by a problem in the door latch's switch(es).

Has anyone forced the door lock recently?

Thanks HayZee518 and Dan O for your suggestions.

To answer your question, Has anyone forced the door lock recently? --> My 2.5 yr old loves to toggle the self-cleaning latch. So I remember he tried to push the latch to the other side last week and I pulled it back to its original position. My belief is that this problem started right after that.

I opened the oven door to see if there is any door latch switches as such that I could unlatch, maybe. But I couldn't find any switch. Any thoughts?

        Thanks.

Any switches will usually be part of the main latching mechanism which could be under the top or on the back of the appliance depending on the range's actual design. Most times at least some disassembly of the appliance would be necessary to access it.

BTW. I can find no listing for the model number you posted. The closest I found was for model RF375PXDW whose latch mechanism looks (as near as I can tell) to be under the cooktop.

Thanks Dan. The model number could be RF375PXDW and not the one with E. The writing on the silver plate was pretty hard to read. I will work on your suggestion and get back to you.

Thanks again for your timely help. I am glad I posted my question on your website!

This is not my web site, I just volunteer my time here like most of the other forum regulars.

              Good luck!

Thanks Dan O and HayZee518. The microswitch was under the top of the appliance and we had to remove the top cover to get to it. The fix was really simple though, just had to reset the switch.

The oven is now working again........can't wait to bake some cookies this weekend.

Thanks again to both for your advice.
