  • New washing machine

    Hi there!

I recently bought a new washing machine for children's clothing. It is a small machine with washing and drying options. While using the dryer, there was this strange smell coming from the machine. Is it normal for a new washing machine to smell or should I get it checked?

Hi DarkKnight! A slight smell from a new washing machine, especially during the first few drying cycles, can be normal. It’s often due to residue from manufacturing or protective coatings burning off. However, if the smell is strong or unpleasantly chemical, it’s best to check a few things:
    1. Check for Residue: Make sure the drum and any filters are clean. Sometimes a quick rinse or wash cycle without clothes can help remove any lingering residues.
    2. Check Ventilation: Newer machines can trap heat, especially with the drying feature. Ensure there’s proper airflow around the machine to prevent overheating.
    3. Read the Manual: Some manufacturers suggest running an empty cycle to “break in” the dryer, which can help eliminate initial odors.
You can update on this post if the issue persists after running the machine a few times.

Thank you, TT. It is getting better. I hope it will completely vanish after a few weeks of usage.
