  • Installing Additional Outlets

I live in a home that was built in the early 1950's. Most rooms do not have enough conveniently located electrical outlets and I want to add more. I've worked on some electrical projects in the past but Im no expert. Can someone briefly lay out the steps to do this? My walls are plaster. Can I run off existing outlets? How do I do this? What connections do I make ? Wire type? How to run wire? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

That's fine to do as long as there aren't too many outlets on a circuit. If it's in bedrooms or hallways...maybe not too much of a problem. There's a real neat 'drillbit' available at the box stores for helping with that. It's in the elctrical section and looks like a 4 or 5 foot long heavy duty coat hanger wire with a fluted drill bit at one end. There's a hole in each end, too. That's for attaching a wire or a drawstring to after the hole is drilled. It's real flexible. Things you need: stud finder, circuit tester, drill, (fancy drill bit as mentioned), a small drywall saw.
