Wiring for a new water heater.

    Can anybody help?
I need to bring the wiring for a new water heater from the breaker panel. Sears is installing the heater,I need to provide the service at the install point. I will be ruinning the wire up to it overhead, then dropping down with flexible conduit. My question is how much should wire and conduit should I leave for the installers, and how to terminate it. I don't know who the installer is so I can't contact them. Is there a specific code to follow? Or general requirement?
    ANY help would be appreciated.

Wire is cheap, leave them several feet.
