  • Smoke Detector Codes in Kentucky

What are the codes for smoke detectors in a basement in Kentucky? I am finishing a full basement and have 2 bedrooms, family room, theater room, small kitchen area with bar, bath, and storage room and office. What are the requirements for smoke alarms in this area. Does it need a dedicated circuit?

    Thanks
    John

New build regulations require a smoke alarm in each bedroom and living space, smoke alarms are to be interconnected thus hardwired, in your case there probably is an argument that you are new build if you just remodeled your basement but at the same time the argument would exist that this was an existing building, so it would be an inspectors call (if it was inspected work).
In the case of an existing home, smoke detectors are to be in any hallway connecting bedrooms and the main living area, there was no requirement for these to be hardwired or interconnected.
Little about a lot and a lot about a little.
