adjusting sockets

Here's a dumb question. I seem to have a lot of these...

The outbuilding on our new home had been partially walled on the inside with OSB. I finished the job but I had to adjust all the socket screws to get them to sit flush with the face plates. Looks nice, but they move around and "sink" in when you plug and unplug cord into them. I don't think it's dangerous, but it's annoying. What can I do about this? I don't really want to pull all the 4x8s down to move the boxes out 1/4".

A simple solution that is commonly done is to attach small flat washers on the mounting screws like shims to form a solid spacer between the device and the box.

Im not an electrician. But, in the process of adding some wainscotting I used some box extensions to compensate for the extra wall thickness. Got them from the hardware store where they had the electrical boxes. My boxes were the blue plastic ones as were the extensions. Im not sure about the metal boxes.

Those guys are correct. Use longer 6-32 screws and use spacers between the yoke and box. Ideal makes a splice sleeve made of metal which will do nicely, otherwise build up the distance using #6 burrs (small washers)

A box extender would be safer than using shims, 1/4" is really more than is allowed for as a space and should be fully enclosed by using an extender. They come in both metal and plastic depending on the type of box you have. Here's an example of a plastic one.
