  • electric stove wiring

My mother-in-law just got an "almost new" electric stove from a friend who is remodeling her kitchen.

The stove has a 4 prong plug, with 4 terminal screws on the back, but her kitchen has a 3 wire 220 recepticle.

Can I simply use a three wire cord, connecting up the black, red and neutral? And if so is the stove grounded?

The stove has a green ground screw on the back as well. Should I add a jumper from the ground to the neutral (white) wire.

    Thanks - John

As for your new style Connection you have. That is moving to be the standard in connections. What you need to do is buy your self a new 4 prong outlet and plug. The fourth wire is a secondary ground. Give it a go should be fairly easy for you.
