  • Outlet at end of switched outlet.

I have an outlet that is currently controlled by a switch. I am wanting to add an outlet about 2 ft away that would not be controlled by the switch. This outlet would have continuous power. Can I just use the power coming from the other outlet to get to this outlet or do I have to run totally new wire?

Two options are presented here. If one-half of the existing outlet is switched then you have your hot and neutral. Just branch off the half that's hot all the time. The other option is to locate an outlet on an opposite wall (back to back)[in another room] and use a short jumper from box to the (new) box and outlet.
