Dimmer switch not dimming

My mom has a dimmer switch that has worked well for years and recently the light started flickering and has now stopped entirely. After putting in a new bulb, (CFL), the light comes on full strength, doesn't dim and flickers intermittedly.
Is it time for a new switch?

Yep, sounds like the dimmer switch has failed. Make sure your open the breaker for this circuit before attempting replacement. Gotta stay safe.

The switch was an in-line rotary one, unplugged the lamp, replaced the switch and everything is fine.

I, of course, let her know what a difficult and dangerous repair this was
