    I cannot figure out how the calculate the KwH on my 5.5 cubic foot freezer. They have it listed as 1.6 Amps, and using 240 KwH a year. Using the formula I have I cannot come up with that number. Can you tell me how they calculate the KwH for the energy tags they place on appliances?

    They first convert the amps to wattss by multiplying 1.6 x 120 volts. This comes out to 192, yes, different than the 240KwH. But there is a power factor that is also added in by the manufacturer, so that's why the math doesn't seem to work.       The manufacturers rating states the unit uses 240kw/yr

      That is 240,000 watts. divided by 365days = 657.53 WH/ a day.

      The unit draws 120v @ 1.6a = 192watts/hr

      657.53watt/hr divided by 192 watts per hour = 3.42 hours average run time per day.
