I need to install a new box to mount a 3 light bathroom fixture on a wall with metal studs. The new box will need to be supported by something that is attached to the studs. How do I do that? I've already cut open the drywall and was expecting wood studs.

Bathroom light fixture
I have created a graphic on how to install boxes within a wallspace of steel studs. Two of the types of boxes used are illustrated on the accompanying jpg-s. If your opening isn't too big, a 1/2" X 3 inch pancake box can be fastened to the stud if it is in the middle of your vanity. Wires can go either through the pryouts and clamps or through one 1/2" knockout of the box. Use sheet metal screws to fasten to the stud. The other case is a 4" octagon box on a mounting bracket. This mounting bracket is fastened to two studs, again using sheet metal screws. The box on this rail can be slid either way to center the box between the studs and then locked into place using it's center screw. Wires are fed from the back in one of two 1/2 inch knockouts and using romex connectors.
