  • Cleaning Electric Baseboard units

Does anyone have advice on how to clean the inside of electric baseboard heating units? They are probably about 30 years old. Recently, the units seem to be creating black "smudges" on the walls above them. We have no manuals or booklets.

because electric baseboard heat is of the convection type - what happens, it heat's the air above it and draws cool air in from underneath, past the elements and back out at the top, any dust carried by the warm air is deposited at the top of the convectors and uppermost part of the heater. Electromode heaters use stamped metal fins and Singer has a cast element with its cast fins. Any moderate stiffness brush can be used to clean the fins of both types. Use a narrow wand to clean the upper part of the heater.
