  • three outlets in one room not working

all three outlets in one room stopped working and I tested them with a socket tester and it says the hot & neu. are reversed, what would cause that and what do I need to do to fix it?

you know which outlets are not working -- shut of the breaker that feeds them and remove all of them from the wall. see how they are connected. should have black to brass screw, white to nickel screw. the black wire on all of them should be hot. check to see which outlet is the first in line off the feeder. this is probably your culprit for the whole string. if you have one set going to the screws and the other downstream set going into the quick wire on the receptacle back through them holes. this quick wire almost always shows up as being the problem. use the side screws on the outlet, forget about the quick wire - its there just to save wiring time. they should have never manufactured them.
