  • Insulation and home wiring

Quick question. I just insulated my unheated basements ceiling and I had alot of wires running through the joists. I used faced R19 to insulate, with the barrier against the ceiling, so I was able to fit the insulation above the wires but the wires come in contact with the bottom of the insulation. Is this a hazzard or is it ok? The wiring is older but the insulation was all in good shape on the wires. It is the older style wire that has the green or black flaky paint on the outside of the wire insulation. I forget what this type is called? I also used unfaced insulation around fixtures, outlets and boxes with at least 3" of clearing on all sides of these fixtures.

yeah, should be no problem. the type of romex you are referring to is a jute fiber. the real old stuff is jute covered with tar and that green/silver paint or whatever
