  • Attached garage Requirements

I have an attached garage with a door leading into the house and also a service door on the side leading into the yard. I live in NC and the hosue was built in 2006. There is a light switch controlling the inside garage lights at the door leading into the house, but no switch controlling these lights at the service door on the side of the garage. The only switch at the side garage door is the switch controlling the outside light, thus making this door unable to be used at night for entry into the garage. Shouldn't a switch have been placed inside this side entry door for safety and to meet code?

the NEC doesn't say anything about a three way being necessary for a remote garage light switching. they probably didn't do it to save money on the original install. If I were the contractor I would have but if the architect plans didn't have it, then it didn't go in.
