    Consumer unit extension

I am replacing my consumer unit but find that the majority of existing cables too short to reach. What is the safest way of solving the problem

      Consumer unit

A consumer unit in the UK is the main control box that contains the fuses.

here in the "states" if there is a junction box within sight of the panelbox but the lead is still too short, run a new length of cable from the box to the panel. If a home run is coming from someplace "other" than a junction box, install a junction box somewhere in the home run, then splice in another length of cable to the panelbox. In the "states" and the National Electric Code, all splices are to be enclosed in a junction box of some sort. I don't know what the rules are for overseas.
