  • GFCI Outlet is Tripped; What next?

The "Test" button on our kitchen GFCI Outlet is depressed and the small yellow light on the GFCI is on. (I am not sure what caused this tripping). However, when the "Reset" button is pressed, the "Test" button is not coming up (that is the yellow light is still ON).

It looks like the GFCI got tripped; but it is not coming back to the normal position even when we push the Reset button in. Owning to this another outlet next to it is not working.

Does this require replacing the GFCI outlet? or Do I need to check any other things? Any help is appreciated.

Have you checked the breaker on the mail panel, just to be sure?

The gfci outlet is probably faulty. Do you have another one around?

Otherwise you can alternate between the test and reset button a few times to see if you can get it unstuck.

Yes. The main panel circuit breakers are on.

The Reset button is not responding and the Test button is always depressed. (When I push down the Reset button with a screwdriver and hold it there, I can see that the power is coming to the outlet
next to it - where I connected the phone with caller id).

It looks like GFCI became faulty (???) and I will try replacing the GFCI outlet and see what happens.
