  • Range 220V connection help

[B)] I originally had an electric range installed in my house. I converted to gas 10 years ago. I just replaced that range with a dual fuel wich uses 220V for the oven. I figured no problem installing the new one just plug the new range in the old outlet. Wrong answer! The old range was hard wired. So, I go out an buy a 3 prong outlet (3 wires in the box 1 black insulated, 1 black/red insulated, and 1 bare wire} However the package says this outlet is a non grounded outlet. That bare wire is a ground. Correct?
Problem #2 the range has a 4 prong cable which I went out a bought a 3 prong replacement which the manual said to do. How do I wire the outlet to correctly operate the range?
Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I think constructive advice would be better than immature criticisms. At least prove you are smarter by helping to solve the problem. As it stands all you have proven is you know less about the situation than dogginit does.

Getting back to the problem at hand, can you give us a little more information? How many wires are coming out of the wall? Four wires? What colors are there? Did you mean that the new oven had instructions to use a 3 prong outlet? Does the one you purchased match the plug on the new oven?

Welcome to the forum! Everyone (minus a few troublemakers) are here to help. I am sure you will have a resolution to your problem in no time. Someone will know the answer!

      dogginit,

Welcome to the forum! Sorry for the lousy welcome by Huang.

Does the plug on the end of the new range look like it would connect into this plug?

Thank you for the response, I ignore poeple like that, they eventually drift away if you don't acknowledge their presence.

          No it did not.
The cord from the range has 4 prongs.
The owner's manual said to replace that one with a 3 prong cord, which I have done. The prong that is at the top of the triangle (Center) is connected to the ground on the range.

I have only 3 wires comming out of the wall which are:
          1 none insulated (Bare)
          1 insulated Black
          1 insulated Black/Red

I bought an outlet that looks like the one you have posted. The package for the new outlet said it was for a "non grounded" application.

            Thank you Troy,

I have only 3 wires comming out of the wall which are:
            1 non-insulated (Bare)
            1 insulated Black
            1 insulated Black/Red

Looking at the outlet Jimmer posted looks like a 4 prong outlet which I assume I cannot use because I only have 3 wires comming out of my wall.

Per the manual, I changed the cord on the range to make it a 3 prong power cord.

Now I need to connect the outlet properly. I'm unsure because the package of the outlet says it's for a non-grounded application.

Thank you again for your response.
