    Wiring 3-way switches

I have recently replaced 3-way switches to a light. It used to work fine before replacing but now, has the following problem.

    1. Switch 1 on
    2. Switch 2 off

Cannot turn on again by toggling switch 1.

However, If I turn switch 2 back to on, I can use switch 1 to on and off.

Hope this is not confusing. What am I doing wrong here?

you have two wires switched around on one of the switches, i couldnt tell what wires to change but the problem would be on switch 2, it is not taking any power to switch one. the wire that is on the common screw should be switched with one of the other two "travelers" that go to the other switch

      jrvkumar,

Here is a diagram of what the wires should look like. Ignore the additional light fixtures if you are only controlling one.

      Good luck, Jim
