  • Electrical hum

For a few days now in our detached house in Lincoln, we have been disturbed by a sound that can be heard in some rooms, not in others. It starts like a relatively high-pitched onset of electricity flow as if through an high watt electric bathroom heater when switched on and until it is glowing red. Then the high pitched sound disappears and a much lower pitched hum takes over. This comes in irregular waves, and disappears from around 1am to 6am. Even if we turn off all electricity at the meter, the sound still continues. The sound is at its loudest near the freeview arial on our roof.

Any suggestions as to cause of the sound, and how to get rid of it, most welcome!

could be wind flowing through your attic as if through a reed.
