    Romex in pvc conduit

I'm wiring a metal frame building. Can romex wire be run inside pvc conduit to protect it from physical damage? If not, please explain.

the code spicifically says that romex or even type UF cable CANNOT be run through any kind of conduit [except for short lengths for mechanical protection] use thhn or thwn stranded conductors.

What would be the reasoning behind this other than it being easier to run individual wires?

the reason is heat dissipation. the romex is in a jacketed assembly. it may also fall under "derating" of total amperage of the conductor(s)
