Minimum sub flooring should be 5/8 - 3/4"
Gluing anything to particle board is almost impossible (especially if you want it to stay down) I'd suggest you screw/nail down 1/8" subfloor ply first, then install your vinyl.
Little about a lot and a lot about a little.

Yes, you can install vinyl flooring over a 1/2 inch subfloor. However, it is important to ensure that the subfloor is smooth, clean, and in good condition before proceeding with the installation. Any irregularities or damage should be addressed before laying the vinyl flooring to ensure a proper and long-lasting installation. Additionally, it is recommended to follow the manufacturer's guidelines and specifications for the specific type of vinyl flooring you are using, as they may have specific requirements regarding subfloor thickness and preparation.

Thinking about putting a floating floor in over my old vinyl instead of ripping it out, is that actually fine to do or am I going to regret it?
