  • Maximum load on floor

What is the maximum load one can place on a floor (2x9 joists, 16" centres)? I just purchased hardwood flooring. It comes in 4 ft long boxes each weighing ~32 lb. I have 75 boxes, or about 2400 lb total. It will be a while before I can install it, but I'm bringing it into the house now. If a pile them next to the wall, across the joists, what is the maximum weight I should load in one location? How about if I pile them next to a wall but parallel to the joists?

how's this for an answer. my house has 2x8 joists, 16.5 on center, with a span of 14 feet. I have a queen sized waterbed on one inside wall. total weight is about a 2 ton. you should have no problem with stacking wood.
