  • black specks in water filter

We have a drilled well. The supply line from this well runs into the basment to the filter and the other essential plumbing parts and fixtures. From time to time the bottom of this filter always has a " build-up" of tiny black specks." IRON"??? Would these specks cause contamination?
Anyone with any input on this would be appreciated

Black specs are usually either Sulphur or sand. Hopefully it's not sand.

I assume you have one of those in line filters that I dislike so much. They don't remove anything that could be harmful to you. What they do well is plug up. If you removed it, you wouldn't see any more stuff in your water than you do with it.

Sulphur is a mineral which if you have enough of it, will make your water smell like rotten eggs. Usually just over 1/2ppm will start smelling. The smell comes from the gas and the actual sulphur coats pipes, then flakes off later on. It won't hurt anything, but can be unsightly. And will clog aerators.

      Maybe part of the filter?
