4500 watts divided by 240 volts equals 18.75 amps. check your rating of the thermostat in amps -or- watts. the thermostat is inevitably of the bi-metallic design, that is to say two dissimilar metals that expand and contract at different rates according to room temperature. the actuator pawl of the "stat" pushes against a snap action microswitch. it is this switch that does the actual connect and disconnect of the load. the wires that come off the switch[es] is red and black. please confirm.
