    instructions only say to put inline with burner. a lot of igniter will be next to flame. it is propane, single burner furnace nordyne. igniter may double as flame sense. anybody got any info? hate to do it wrong at $27 a pop. //Ed

    check your gas line where it comes from the valve to the burner, proper. if there is no pilot burner then align the igniter parallel to the burner tube as close as you can without touching it. the wires and connectors are made of nickel chromium so they should stand the heat without breaking down.
    your flame detector may be one of two types. a cadmium sulphite cell or a flame detector of one single wire.
    the CdS actually "sees" the flame and reports back to the lockout relay. the single wire or flamerod has 120 volts AC on it when there's no flame. BUT its polarity changes to DC in the presence of a flame. The air between the rod and burner ground ionizes to conduct DC and so is connected to its circuitry to keep going or lockout.
