  • Oil furnace wont fire...............argh!

Hey all, I have an Airease oil furnace with Becett guts. We had it serviced and the tech said the igniter wasn't supposed to be making all those clicking noises and would have to be replaced soon. I ordered one from ebay that said it was compatible and just before it got here the furnace would "run" but not fire.

I was surprised when I opened the box that it was "digital". There is a display screen on the unit. The old unit number is; R718B. The new on is; R7284. I mention the part numbers because the old unit had a separate little box mounted on a sheet metal plate behind the igniter that the thermostat wires hook up to and the new igniter didn't come with one. Of course it is that little box (with terminals marked; C Y G R W) that clicks a lot and gets hot. I didn't see any similarly marked terminals on the igniter unit itself so I guess I need a new what ever that little box is.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Those numbers are from Honeywell Corp.
The R718B and the R7284 are primary oil burner igniter and flame monitoring relay.
Type in either number i.e. HONEYWELL R7284 into your browser and it'll take you to their site.
