  • Condensation

Hi all. I moved into an older house and the ac unit was leaking water out the bottom, so I cleaned the condensate return line and removed a giant slug of crud. This fixed the problem. Last night, I turned on the gas heat for the first time and the unit started leaking water again, out the bottom of the unit. What would be causing this only when heating? Thanks!

Most likely the condition will disapate. Left over water is likely to be evaporating and the water will be gone. Watch the condition during each day heating is used. Problem or condition should be gone soon, providing you do not once again use the air conditioning.

Did you remove all the water from the catch A/C catch pan? Did you insure the pan is angle towards the water drain line? If the angle is not correct, the water will overflow out of the pan and only some will drain out of the line, if any can or does drain out.

Seen some angles of the drain pans angled away from the drain. Causes water to overflow. Some experts miss this aspect themselves. Clear line and away they go. Problem not totally solve in that fashion. Probelm than returns next A/C season.

Correct pan angling is not always an easy job. Nor is sealing around the A/C to heater. Often times space is very limited and the sealing around the base of the coils to heater junction is difficult or not done properly or done well or at all. Takes skills and experience in difficult installations where space is limited. May need a pro to do the entire job and get it all correct.

    Good Luck.
