  • Fast - Fill Valve & Bleeding Sys

    Hi,
So glad I found this site ! VERY HELPFUL.
I have a new (2 1/2 yrs)gas Burnham System. Everything had been FINE since some remodeling we just finished. Contractor put in new baseboard. Bleeded when complete, but when we now turned on for cold weather, basement zone seems to be air bound. He came back and "bleeded" zone by turning off other 3, and heat went on, baseboard in basement heated. Has been OFF since then (few weeks). Went to turn it on this morning COLD - and same thing. I am pretty mechanically inclined, and basically know what to do - BUT, what do I do with the FAST-FILL VALVE ? Does is stay CLOSED after I purge the air out, and ADD COLD WATER? I do not want to screw anything up ! ALSO - a "side" question. Can Radiant floor heat be tapped into an exisiting zone of baseboard to ADD heat to a new room ?
MANY THANKS GUYS ! I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM SOMEONE !
    Best Regards,
    Bill

the system should be a closed loop completely void of air, just filled with liquid. The expansion tank will take care of imperfections to the system. The fil valve should be closed except when filling the system.
A bleed is usually at the highest point in the system where the air would naturally go.
Sort of like bleeding your brake system in a car. Pump it up apply pressure and get rid of the air.
Check with the original installer about tapping into an existing system if it has the capacity for another loop of heat.
