  • turned my heat on for the first time this year

i turned my furnace on for the first time this year and i've got a problem. i just bought my first house about a year ago and don't have much experiance with these types of thigs. when it's, say 60 degrees in the house and turned the heat on and bumped the temp up to say 66, the burner comes on, runs for a min and then the blower comes on.....just like it's suposed to. but the problem is after about 2-3 minuets the whole thing shuts off. the burner fires right back up and goes for a min, then again the blower comes on. it runs for a couple minuest and shuts off. same thing over and over.

I am by no means an expert BUT I may be able to offer a suggestion.. I to have a "Carrier", actually a "Bryant" which is a spin off of carrier ( Both are "metric" for JUNK in my eyes but...)

I would look and see if there is a little red indicator on the circuit board of the unit ( if it has one).. It is used to indicate if power is present and is used to identify " trouble codes" as seen by the circuit board in the furnace.... There should be a chart inside the furnace door or blower compartment door identifying the trouble codes and how to " read the indicator" E.G " one flash of the indicator followed by a short pause and 4 short flashes would correspond to a "14"... look up the corresponding "code" on the chart and that will tell you the problem or at least point to the general area the problem could be... thats a start anyway.. that indicator will tell you if its a "high limit" thats opened, (restricted air flow, dirty filter), pressure switch open or "stuck" ( improper venting, blocked vent,)... all sorts of things.. hopefully you can deciphfer the "indicator" on the circuit board... If nothing appears wrong, it very well could be a dud circuit board. I had that happen as well as a slew of other things!

    Hope this helps!
