    Rheem Furnace Problem

My Rheem Furnace is 14 years old and is a high efficiency gas unit (I assume 80%). The problem is that when we set the programmable Tstat it comes on once. Then a motor in the furnace runs nonstop but the furnace heater will not come on again nor does the starter. When I shut it down and wait 10 seconds or so to restart, it runs properly. It may then run properly for 7 or 8 cycles then start to act up again. Can you tell me the cause?

Haven't you had problems with this unit for a while now? It sounds like you are having a problem with a relay or safety switch. Without more info on the unit, I would have a hard time telling you which.

Even a 14 year old heater, especially if it was designated as a "hi-efficiency" unit, has a fairly complicated control board. You need someone knowledgeable enough to study the control diagram and logically test the possible causes.

Are you reseting it by turning the switch off at the furnace or by shutting the thermostat off and back on? And if you could supply a model number for the furnace which would be inside the top door, that would help alot.
