new thermostat installation help

I just bought a new Honeywell RTH7400D Programmable thermostat and everything works great except one small thing, The room temperature reading never changes.

If I set the temp to go above the room reading the heat comes on fine.

What could cause this.

I have a normal thermometer next to it and it reads 65 and the digital reads 72. Ahh!

Any suggestions.

It never changes? Never? Blow a hair dryer on it once (not to hot!!). See if it changes. Out of calibration is different from not working.

With two thermometers...how do you know which is the correct one? You'd almost have to take the one you have next to it to a store and compare it to the thermometers they sell. And then make your decision from that.

Have you tried pushing the reset button on the stat to see if that will cure your problem. There should be a pin hole for reseting it.
