  • Clicking Noise

We have an older American Standard furnace, with what looks to be a newer Marathon oil burner. We've lived in the house for 3 years and have not had any trouble so far, and just recently had our yearly furnace service and cleaning. Now whenever the furnace comes on I hear a clicking sound coming from the oil burner. It sounds like the "wheely thing" on the inside of the burner is turning but is making the noise when it goes around. Boy did that make me sound like a doofus. Anyway, that's where I've traced the noise to. The furnace still works, our water is hot and our house is warm, but I'm wondering how serious this noise is. Is it something that could be out of alignment, or could be oiled. I am not mechanical, but I am frugal, and really don't want to call the repairman just yet. Can anybody help me?

The motor that drives the oil pump also drives the squirrel cage fan on the other end. The noise could be something hitting the fan blades or the fan itself might be hitting the shroud at one point inside.
