  • payne furnace is a pain

when furnace calls for heat, the inducer motor starts. the igniter come on and glows and i hear a click and the gas valve opens up and two of the five burners come on and then the ignitor shuts off, the other three burners never light (flame sensor by these burners) and the furnace shuts down. does this 3 times untill ignition goes to lockout. cleaned heat sensor. code says flame proving failing. but sometimes the thing works ok. the two burners come on and almost instantly the other three start and all five burners work. is there something about flame carryover or carryover gap that could prevent the three burners from not fireing sometimes forcing it into lockout?, or do i have a two stage gas valve that is sticking on the second stage? please help!

The burners should be removed and cleaned with wire brush. The gaps between the first and last burner are probaly rusted or coroded, or you might just need to have the burners replace depending on their condition. This is most likely your problem. The inlet and outlet gas presures on gas valve should also be checked to make sure the right amout of gas presure is entering and leaving valve.
