I have a gas forced air heating/cooling system. When the heat or ac comes on, I hear the electric air cleaner ticking. It does it constantly while the airor heat is on. I have tried to reset it and shut it off for awhile, but it always starts ticking again. It sounds like when you start your top burner on an electronic pilot stove. I have cleaned the filters and the grids several times so I know it's not because they are dirty, maybe I need to remove the grids and filters and get into the unit with a vac? Thanks for any input

the electric air cleaner uses about 27,000 volts to charge two plates inside that attract airborn dust. if any area inside the cleaner has sharp points, they will arc out and jump the gap. if the plates slide into a housing, make sure you have intimate contact between a known ground and the high voltage connection. also for safety sake NEVER bypass the safety switch on the cover - you could kill somebody!
