  • pilot light woes

I have a gas fireplace that came with my house. It has no documentation as to who made it. It had been disconnected by previous owners. It has a robertshaw millivolt gas valve (7000 MVRB 4 LC / 770 826 493). It probably has not been used in several years. After installing a thermostat I was able to get the fireplace running. i shut it down to await colder weather and now i cannot get the pilot to stay lit. Pilot lights with ignitor but after releasing button (valve) pilot goes out , no matter how long you hold button. Is valve faulty or maybe a cleaning is in order? any help would be appriecated. Thanks

The First thing I would do would be to remove the pilot burner and clean with a small wire brush and make sure the small orfice is not plugged up at all, then try to relite if it still does not stay lit then replace the thermopile and if all that fails then your gas valve maybe no longer able to hold the flame no more and will need replaced.
