Lennox Gas Furnace Intermittent Clicking

My Lennox Conservator III G16R is 15 years old, Chicago area. The furnace works normally, except for an intermittent clicking sound while it is working. It might click once or several times, then click again 5 or 10 minutes later. The clicking can easily be heard over the normal noise of the furnace. As I recall, it was doing this last heating season, but perhaps not quite as frequently.

I would be interested to hear what is the likely cause of this clicking, and the approximate repair cost. I do some things around the house, but I have never worked on a gas furnace. I would hate to make a rookie mistake, and cause an explosion.

I have not noticed the clicking recently. Does this matter?
