  • Oil Burner fails to ignite

I have a Beckett burner using a transformer along with a stack relay on the flue. Occassionally the burner will fail to ignite. It will not even attempt to start. I have to ajust the springs on the eclectrodes in order to get it to ignite. At times when the furnace is idle I will move the aquastat to a higher temp and the burner does not even attempt to start. At this point I hit the reset on the Stack
relay and the burner starts but fails to ignite at the transformer. I then readjust the springs on the transformer and hit the reset and the
burner starts ignition and all. This will run with no problems for a day or two then the same thing happens. Any idea's
    Hune you out there

Welcome to the forum.... If your having to re-adjust the electrodes from time to time, this is ONE of the problems. Also the settings (gap ) is very critical in the firing of the burner. Nozzle sizing, spray pattern ,should also be set properly. UNLESS you have the required testers and "settings" manual,Air/fuel ratio, etc, all your going to accomplish is creating a safety hazard. When you have to re-set the stack relay (lock-out)that is shutting the system down for your protection. In the long run, having a PRO come in and make any necessary adjustments would be the best advice at this time. Good luck, Hube
