I have a ventless propane fireplace. My question is, is it normal to smell the propane during and after using it? I was sleeping in my bedroom directly above the fireplace and woke up to a pretty strong propane smell. I asked my wife and she said she had used it for about a half hour. As far as I know there are no leaks.

No you should not smell propane after using the fireplace. If the fireplace unit is new there might be the "new" smell common with the ceramic logs burning in, but this usually disappears within 3-6 hours of initial use.
Ventless propane fireplaces will give off an small odor almost a "wet air" smell that is harmless, that you sometime notice when re entering the home or room.
Make sure you have a carbon dioxide detector in the same room as the fireplace.Little about a lot and a lot about a little.
