  • Upstairs HVAC is making noise

We recently purchased a new home with dual zone HVAC. The unit upstairs is resting on the subfloor in a small closet. When the heat kicks on, there is a resonance or droning that I believe is caused by vibrations from the unit to the floor. In certain areas of the main level (the one under the unit) the noise is pretty loud. Almost sounds like a subwoofer that isn't properly grounded.

Anyone have suggestions as to what to do to minimize this noise.

I am thinking of putting some anti-vibration pads under the unit but I'm not sure how I'll lift it up or if that will do much good.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

With ductwork and every thing tied to the unit, it could very hard to pick up the unit and put vibration material under it. One thing you could check is your blower and motor. I have seen motors with a bad spot in the winding that makes the the pulse-sate. A blower wheel being out of balance can make a lot of vibration. Later Paul
