  • AC tonnage for a 1300 sq ft. condo

    Hi,
We live in Massachusetts and we are planning to replace our old HVAC. Our condo is of 1300 sq.ft with two sides surrounded by the walls of two other units.
We have got a few cost estimates from local contractors. For the AC we have got options from 1.5 Ton to 3.5 Ton , mostly 16 seers.
Can anybody suggest what would be the correct AC tonnage for hour house? Will 2.5 Ton be the optimum?

    Thanks

    Hi there,

For a 1300 sq. ft. condo in Massachusetts, a 2.5-ton AC unit is likely a good choice. The correct tonnage for an air conditioner depends on various factors, including the size of your home, insulation, window sizes, and overall energy efficiency. Generally, a 2.5-ton unit should be sufficient for your space, especially if it’s well-insulated and the walls are shared with other units. However, to ensure you get the most accurate recommendation, it’s best to have a professional perform a load calculation, which takes into account all these factors. This will help you avoid over or under-sizing the unit and ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency.
