Furnace runs..goes off...then right back on again.

Hello, i am living in a year old condominium. For the past couple of weeks, i have noticed the furnace runs its normal routine, then right as it shuts down, it starts an entire cycle again. It started out with just running two cycles, now this past week we are running three consecutively. I have changed the replacable air filter. several times now. Not sure what else this could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks, Clayton

Clayton; Not too much info to go on, but for starts, when the furnace cuts off, is the thermostat satisfied at this stage or is it still a degree or so lower than the setting? Also, how long an interval between these "short cycles? (in minutes)... Does it do this "recyling" when its making up a overnight set-back recovery of several degrees?? Or does this happen on a normal cycle any time of the day? What type and what location is the Thermostat. Gas or oil. As there are many variables to this problem you should post back with some added info and we will certainly advise further to pinpoint a cure to this problem.. Hube

First, Thanks For the response! Ok, this is a gas furnace by Weather King. I have a electronic thermostat which is set to 71 degrees. The tempature of the condo seems to hold fine. This is now happening with every cycle the the furnace runs throughout the day and night.

So, Anytime of day a normal cycle will run...i.e. gas kicks in for about 30-45 seconds. blower kicks in next, then gas kicks off, blower kicks off about 45 seconds after gas is off. This whole process takes about 5 -7 minutes. Seems normal enough. Last year during the winter it would do same cycle then start again maybe 1-2 hours later to keep place warm.

Seems like this year, or lately, Once the cycle quits (3-5 minutes), immiadiately a new cycle starts for another 3-5 minutes. And very recently i have seen the funnace run a third cycle right after the second. Then a couple hours later, another 3 cycles. I will have to admit, it seems as if the time is a bit shorter during these consecutive cycles. It is almost as if something is overheating..ie. can't get enough air...so it quits, then starts right back up.

This is a single floor condo, and the thermostat is in the hallway about 15 feet from the furnace(which is in a closet). Please let me know if you need any additional information...and thanks again for the response!!! The temp of the place seems fine, just really annoying the furnace keeps cycling..want to make sure nothing is seriously wrong. thanks again

First item to check out should be your T stat. What make , model is it? Is this a new one that has been installed or adjusted recently? It could be a improper setting of the "ANTICIPATOR", or a faulty one. (very seldom therms go bad though)... If the T stat is ok, then it may be the Furnace's "High Limit" is cutting the burner off, but to have it cut back in again will usually take 5-10 minutes of a "cool off" period. Did this problem just start in the last few weeks. Are you sure there has been no adjustments to the T stat, or ductwork, blower speed, dampers closed, etc, or the like in the past while just prior to this problem? Hube
