  • Monitor 41 problems

My monitor 41 has given me years of good service, I have always kept up on maint. This year the first fire up is given me a problem. During start up the normal chamber purge works, bottom of the chamber gets warm from ignition like it should. After it starts up the burner process and goes to 4 bars about 30 seconds later it cuts out the burner and purge continues after a few minutes it begins flashing full bars. I pulled the fuel line and it seems to not be getting fuel. I put my volt meter on the solenoid wires and it appears I'm getting no volts to the solenoid. I checked all the fuses and they are fine. I'm at a loss please help! Thank you!

the combustion blower is the first thing to come on and the last thing to shut off - ALWAYS! When your system goes into lockout, the solenoid pump will not operate. There is something keeping it off. The chain of safety devices is where to look. No 1 is the air proving switch. Its contacts must close because of sufficient air flow to the chamber. No 2, the high limit must be closed. No 3, once there is a flame the flamerod circuitry kicks in. No flame, it goes into lockout. Have you rodded out the fuel line from the pump to the combustion pot fitting? Is there a carbon build up in the brass extension tube in the pot? The bottom section of the fuel line must be cleaned out with a 1/8th inch drill bit [by hand, not by power] Have you cleaned out the fuel sump? In here is a mechanical lockout linkage that actuates when there is lack of fuel or too much fuel. It's called the constant level control. Clean the crap out of the fuel sump with gumout carb cleaner. Kero forms a brown gunk that is almost like a gel inside the sump.

      Tests

Ok I tested the 2 high temp switches and they are closed like you said they should be. I kicked the heater on waited about 2 minutes and tested the air pressure switch and it remains open is this why is it not activating the solenoid for fuel? Per your other questions yes I have cleaned the fuel tube from pump to chamber and tested it with compressed air it is clean. My lifter works fine seems to have no problem building up pressure before I started the first fire up.

        air flow switch

temporarily jumper out the airflow switch. if the heater starts and runs, look for cracks in the rubber tubing. one side of the switch is open to atmosphere, the other end goes into the combustion blower housing.

          Air flow

I bypassed it and it fires up. There is plenty of airflow coming out of the exhaust. Also the air pressure switch does not connect to the chamber it comes directly off the blower. Since there is plenty of airflow could my pressure switch be bad? I checked the line to it and it is clear. Also this was the first fire up after a minute or so the exhaust got very dark in color and a lot of it so I killed it it burned still for about 2 minutes after I stopped fuel flow. I had my chamber open yesterday and it didn't seem too dirty. I'm going to wait for it to cool and clean it good.

            Misread

Sorry I miss read your last sentence, yes it goes to the blower housing, I checked the tube seems clear but there is no air coming out of it.. Hoses are good replaced them last year.

              Found it

The hose going to the pressure switch had a break in it I just noticed, used some extra car vacuum line I had. Pressure switch now closes fires up and no more bad smoke. Thank you very much for your time and wisdom you prob. saved me hours of time.
