  • Power Vent Gas Water Heater

Hi There, need some help here. Just have the furnace checked but the technician found something else. The PVC pipe connected to the gas heater was broken, he suggested replacing the heater (9 years old) with a new one and fix the problem once and for all. Just wonder can I just repair a section of the PVC pipe?
    Thanks

    Why Replace?

I was wondering why he sugested a replacement? Is there another problem other than the broken vent? Or did the heater cause the vent to break by overheating?

If there is no other problems and you just need a new vent you can just replace the PVC make sure to keep proper slope as per manufacture direction.

No need to replace a perfectly good heater and be weary of the sales pitch of savings ecpecially if your old heater is not really old and inefficent. Ask for numbers of actual savings expected per year than devide by price of new insalled equipment often the savings is beyond the the expected life of the new equipment.
