  • Sulfur / Iron Filter

Hello everyone! Been quite a while since I've been around these parts, but I
have a question, hoping you can help!

At my parents' house, their well was probably dug a little too deep, and they get
a moderate sulfur smell in their water sometimes. A culligan man came out and
inspected the water and everything, and said there is also suspended iron/rust in
the water. He recommended the following system be installed:

CULLIGAN - sulfur cleer whole house water filter system

However, they wanted $2600 for it (including installation)! This was much, much
higher than we'd expected. So my question for you all is, where can we buy a
comparable system and install it ourselves?

There are different kinds of filters, and I'd be curious to know all of your
opinions on these systems. One of the popular kinds for example, is the
    Manganese Greensand Filter.

Any type of info you could provide would be appreciated!

Culligan tends to be much higher in price than many water conditioning systems...

SpeedBump will be along shortly I'm sure he could fix you up with a very nice system substantially less than the Culligan system...
I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
    Now I can Plumb!

Did you know some Redwood Pipe is still in service today.

The Culligan man wants to get his cut as well as the salesman and the guy that built the unit. And they are high for sure.

The sulphur system we use here in Florida is here:- PumpsAndTanks.com
As for the iron, I like the manganese greensand filter, and if your using the sulphur removal system we have, you don't need an oxidizer as the air in the sulphur removal system will take care of that for free. Both of these units would be much less than the Culligan man's one unit, but the install may be a problem for you.

I always caution people about units that claim to do more than one job. This usually means it does half a good job for both.
