How to remove handle from Danze faucet D304056

I called Danze and they said that the handle assembly can be unscrewed from the top. Mine is too tight. Using a wrench to loosen it - even with cardboard or similar material under the wrench - will mar the soft metal body of the handle. Is my only choice to remove the mounting hardware assembly underneath the sink by unscrewing the two screws, replace the cartridge, then re-install the assembly? Am I missing something? since there are NO flats where to put a wrench, might I suggest getting a narrow strap wrench applied to the bonnet.
however looking at the diagram, where do the two screws fasten into?
maybe the bonnet isn't meant to come off, besides what they say. I don't see no nuts on the underside of the sink, even a simple valve has jam nuts on the valve stem.

You cannot replace the valve stem unless you remove the handle first.
Can you post a picture of your faucet please ?

You can use a "strap wrench" similar to an oil filter wrench it has a rubber strap that wraps around the item to eliminate damage IF the cover must be removed by unscrewing.

Try to turn JUST the handle part (horizontal section), not the dome shaped part that comes down to the counter top, often they screw onto the stem cover once removed there is a small screw that allows the cover to be removed from the valve stem

There is no screw in my system. See the pics I attached.

SOLVED!!!


Used a rubber strap wrench to loosen the handle - was probably put on too tight at initial installation. I needed to replace both the cartridge (yes, it is replaced from above) and the handle (interior threads stripped).
