New type of supply pipe

I was watching this old house and saw a new type of water supply pipe. A tool was shoved into the end and it spread it enough to get the fitting in . I then shrunk back to original size. No ring, or band to crimp. What was it?

Wirsbo has pipe thats called aquapex piping and propex ring but the hand expander is 400.00 dollars and a powered one is up in the thousands, They are sweet but if you are going to use it a lot its expensive to buy the tools needed
