  • Water Softener starts my washing machine

Lots of problems, wondering what might be the cause.

I have a Culligan Mark 50 water softener and whenever it goes into it's cycle water backs up into my washing machine (right next to each other) which somehow ends up turning on my washing machine and eventually water starts spilling out of the washing machine.

I have the water softner shut off for the time being.

Also, when using my washing machine, it doesn't always drain all of the water. Takes several turns of the spin cycle before it drains all the way.

Apparently there is a restriction in the drain line(s) which allows the water to backup in the lines. Overflowing at the washing machine drain line I can understand. But how the washer turns on (if that is what you mean?)and begins running is well beyond imaginable.

Think you would need to include much more detailed info for anyone to determine how it is possible the washer turns itself on. Overspilling from the washer is possible if the washers drain line is below grade but more likely overflowing out of the sewage drain line the washers hose is installed into.

Best suggestion is to contact a licened plumber to power snake the sewage lines and check the heights of the drain lines to the washer and the water softner.

    Good Luck.
