  • tank to bowl lean

Hi All. I have replaced most of the components in an old 1964 american standard toilet and the tank leans wayyy back towards the wall. I can't tighten the tank to bowl nuts much more or I know that the porcelain will crack. I think the problem is is in the gasket and plastic nut combination that goes in the tank hole, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

If you only have 2 tank bolts then set the tank on top of the bowl with the gasket and hole lined up properly. Now finger tighten the bolts and nuts evenly on both sides. Using a deep wrench socket can help you out here. Set a level across the top of the tank and tighten down on the nuts evenly, one complete turn on one nut, then one comeplete turn on the next nut. Also hold the bolts steady with a long screwdriver from above at the same time you're tightening the nuts. Continue switching back and forth so they cinch up balanced, but not so hard that the porcelyn cracks. Make sure your bubble is reading in the center or near center of the level when complete.

If you have 3 bolts perform the same as above.
